2023 Summer Stand Tall Storytime

In this interactive class, we read an exciting story each week about the diversity among the people around us as we learn the value of appreciating individuality. These stories teach our students how to build their own confidence and how to help their friends growing up with different struggles do the same.

2023 Summer – Chinese Zodiac Animals Drawing

This class will focus on drawing different Chinese Zodiac animals every week. Students will learn to draw animals like the rabbit or the dragon over the course. There will be approximately 10 classes. Each class will be tutorial-based where students will follow along with the teacher as we draw an animal together.

For returning students, please inform your tutor about the number of sessions you have already completed. Tutors will then commence the new sessions without repeating the previous ones

Hardware: Apple iPad with Apple Pencil/any compatible stylus

If the iPad owned is among the following, Ipad air 3 / 4 / 5th Generation, Ipad Mini 5 / 6 Generation, Ipad pro 12.9 3 / 4 / 5th Generation, IPad Pro 11 inch, or IPad 6 / 7 / 8 / 9th Generation, then this stylus is a relatively well-priced option as opposed to an Apple Pencil.

Software: Procreate – Ten dollars on App Store

Hardware: Laptop, Apple iPad, Apple pencil or any stylus
Software: Procreate (purchase in iPad App Store, it is about $10 or so.

2023 Summer – Social Media Interaction & Post

Do you have one or more social media platforms? Learn to post personalized pictures, designs and different themes on popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more! Students will be able to utilize Canva and Google to create photo text designs to promote based on specific themes for the week and learn to post them on popular platforms.

Students: 10+ years old Some computer operation experiences such as typing and mouse clicking Can follow teachers’ instructions with help from teacher assistants or parents

Hardware: Any computers with access to internet and a browser

2023 Summer – Online Safety & Cybersecurity Course

This course will teach students how to navigate the internet safely. Students will learn about the dangers of the internet including phishing attacks, scamming attacks, people pretending to be others online, etc. They will also learn how to avoid such dangers. In addition, students will also learn about cybersecurity basics such as setting good passwords and cryptography.

For returning students, please inform your tutor about the number of sessions you have already completed. Tutors will then commence the new sessions without repeating the previous ones

2023 Summer – Explore Coding Through Games 1

A fun way of learning how to use block-based programming with video games like Plant Vs. Zombies, Minecraft, Flappy Bird, and more, Code.org is a new class that will help students grasp the basics of coding and inspire them to pursue a future in coding. Throughout the course, students will learn all about the power of functions, variables, for loops, and much more all the while having fun with attention catching characters. No prior coding is required nor expected. We will have class materials for 30 classes in the first CS Fundamentals: Express course and will be expanded on as students finish the course.

2023 Summer – 3D Modeling & Printing Workshop – Beginner

In the workshop sessions, students will create fun objects such as a personalized Keychain, Lithophane, 3D Jigsaw Puzzle, Customized Planetary Gearset, Toy Car, Dragon Eggs, etc. The students will learn about the different types of 3D printers, printer filaments and their uses, 3D modeling, slicing, bridging, and related software and basic use. There are a multitude of usable as well as fun things that can be accomplished with these basic techniques.

The objective is to give the students confidence and a sense of accomplishment from making the objects apart from learning 3D modeling and 3D printing skills.

Instructor: Ravi Uday Prabhune is a maker at heart who loves hands-on creative activities such as woodworking and 3D modeling and printing. He has raised funds by selling his custom creations such as wooden low-slung tables and other items and used the proceeds to donate 3D-printed assistive devices to special needs students in the US and Africa. Recently Ravi received a utility patent grant for the design of an eco-friendly and convenient pooper scooper; he used 3D printing for design modeling and printing the prototypes of the scooper.Among Ravi’s other achievements, he has been a Finalist in The Amazing Maker Awards 2022 International competition based on creative & technical contribution and social impact.

Note: This is an online class. The students will be able to see 3D Printer and its functionality over Zoom. Some of the interesting and fun objects designed during the sessions will be available at the end of summer.

2023 Summer – 3D Modeling & Printing Workshop – Intermediate

In the workshop sessions, students will learn several techniques related to creating 3D models in Autodesk Fusion 360 for 3D printing. As part of the learning, the students will create fun objects such as a personalized Stamp with interchangeable stamping plate, a Pencil Box with sliding lid, a custom Cookie Cutter with personal message, and a custom Name Plate that may even be used in any other classes! There are a multitude of usable as well as fun things that can be accomplished with these techniques covered in the workshops.

The objective is to give the students confidence and a sense of accomplishment from 3D modeling fun objects apart from learning 3D modeling and 3D printing skills.

2023 Summer – Video Editing Workshop

In the workshop sessions, students will learn several techniques related to video editing and adding visual effects using Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve. The class will start with going over the basics such as importing media, making edits, and rendering a final video and then create fun video projects to learn the techniques involved such as splitting, adding transitions and applying effects.

The objective is to give the students confidence and a sense of accomplishment from fun video editing projects and learning the related techniques.
