Human Anatomy by Med-ucate

In our classes, we teach students about human anatomy- like the digestive system and genetics- and provide advice on how to make more health-conscious decisions. Med-ucate uses a heavily hands-on and discussion-based method of teaching (as opposed to a lecture format) so that topics truly resonate with our students. Some examples of class activities include crafting models of human body systems together, dancing to understand how our muscles work, and drawing different body parts. For more information, CLCK!

Med-ucate is a team at SPARK,, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created and run by high school students. Our goal at SPARK is to bridge the gap of educational inequality in underserved communities by providing individuals with access to free, student-led classes in a variety of subjects. The Med-ucate program’s mission is to educate individuals about the importance of self-care and well-being in order to prevent the development of later conditions. Currently, we are working with libraries, homeless shelter, schools in Africa, and special needs organizations, including FCSN where we teach anatomy at the afterschool program.”

Rain and Shine Storytime – Summer 2021

In this interactive class, we combine reading, music, and games to help children with special needs develop and improve their social-emotional skills. Our stories and activities aim to help them understand, recognize, and properly express a wide range of emotions. We use well-known characters from popular movies and shows to personify each emotion. We also teach techniques that help children to manage their own feelings and exercise self-control.

Some of the books and songs we will discuss are:

  • The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen and “Sad, Bad, Terrible Day” by The Learning Station
  • Is a Worry Worrying You? by Ferida Wolff and Harriet May Savitz and “Managing Worry” by Flocabulary
  • Angry Octopus by Lori Lite and “Grumpy as a Grizzly Bear” by StoryBots

Emergency Protocol Workshops by Creativemindz

In our workshop, we will teach students about the different types of emergencies and the various safety measures that need to be taken pertaining to each situation. We will cover stranger danger, intruder drills, fire drills, and earthquake drills from Tuesday to Friday, each workshop being an hour long. All these drills are extremely prevalent and crucial to not only be aware of, but to also know how to react accordingly. Creativemindz uses online activities and games, such as Kahoot, to offer informative yet engaging classes for the children.

“Creativemindz is a nonprofit organization, led by a team of high schoolers, which has a goal of encouraging students with special needs to explore activities outside of their school curriculum. Through the various workshops they held, including STEM workshops, dance workshops, art classes, and tutoring,  they fostered children’s inner creativity and expanded upon their talents/interests.  Over the span of the past few years, they have also held fundraising events and raised over 5,000 dollars, which they donated to several causes. Creativemindz strives to develop a safe environment for students to delve into the more creative aspects of life.”
