Summer Kid & Teen Social Play Group 2023
In this course, we will help kids and teens learn social skills that include: communication, problem solving, perspective taking and teamwork. They will also learn appropriate social interactions such as making requests, initiating interactions, sharing, exercising give and take (reciprocity), and turn taking. It is a great way of motivating them to learn and to implement all the skills that working together needs. Besides having fun, social skills help them in school and in life to develop a sense of self and positive social-emotional skills in their environment, be able to communicate, handle their emotions, show respect, and build friendships which can help them to do better in life, in the classroom and in the community.
Ms. Lyn will be the instructor of the course. She is currently an Instructional Assistant in training students from all disability categories including those with severe emotional behavioral disabilities for 12 years. She has an ABA background for six years and she is also one of the teachers of FCSN’s After School Program for almost four years. Her passion and professional experiences in working with students will contribute to the goals of providing students with a safe and positive learning environment.

Summer 2023 Fun Technology Introduction Camp: App Making and Testing
In this camp, students will be able to work together and code apps using the MIT App Maker. Making an app on the MIT App Maker is much like assembling a puzzle, dragging and placing command blocks in the right places. Each day of the camp, the kids will be able to follow tutorial videos and instructions as they create an app under the guidance of an instructor. Afterward, they will be able to test out their app and just have fun with it. Apps range from drawing apps to chatting apps, which they could test out with other kids. Finally, we will also be trying out pre-programmed softwares if there is extra time, such as an image-classifier or chatbot. This course will help students foray into the rapidly expanding computer science field easily while having fun at the same time.
Jack Yin will be the instructor for this camp. He has lots of experience with the MIT App Maker, having coded multiple apps using it, with some winning awards. He has worked with special needs kids before and plays badminton with a group of special needs kids on a biweekly basis. His passion is computer science, and he hopes to be able to share that passion with others.
